PBIS
Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports
Kings Canyon Online practices the PBIS philosophy. We are so excited to have received a gold level model school award in 2017-2018 and again in 2018-2019. Kings Canyon Unified did not recognize schools for PBIS in 19-20, 20-21, or 21-22 due to the COVID pandemic, but KCO has continued to focus on strengthening the current support systems available to our tier 2 students.
Throughout the year, students have provided input on motivators and incentives they would like to earn for positive academic performance and attendance. Staff is continuously working on behavior markers to give students attainable goals in order to earn those motivators and incentives.
Kings Canyon Online has chosen PRIDE as their Behavioral Expectations:
P - Perseverance
R - Respect
I - Integrity
D - Drive
E - Excellence
At KCO, specific behavior expectations are defined in given areas of our working school whether that be at an actual school site or off campus site. It is the behaviors on the PRIDE matrix that we hope to practice and make a permanent part of our character as KCO staff and students.
In addition to our PRIDE expectations to guide student behavior and promote positive character, KCO staff and administration follow a response to intervention model when addressing the needs of Tier I, II, and III students to ensure a systematic response to student needs.
