Cat Haven Field Trip 17-18

Kings Canyon Online (KCO) offers a wide array of events and activities throughout the school year, all designed to engage students and challenge them in meaningful ways. The dedicated staff at KCO is passionate about providing opportunities that not only promote educational growth but also ignite a deep interest in subjects like science, history, and the student’s own local community. These events are carefully curated to give each student the chance to explore different fields, encouraging them to discover new passions and develop a well-rounded skill set. By participating in these events, students don’t just learn—they are given the tools to broaden their understanding of the world around them and to think critically about their place in it.

A key part of the KCO experience is the variety of collaborative activities that allow students to work together. These activities foster a sense of teamwork, helping students build meaningful relationships with their peers while also gaining valuable insights into themselves. Through group discussions, projects, and hands-on learning, students develop not just academic knowledge, but also the soft skills needed to thrive in any environment—skills like communication, problem-solving, and leadership.

KCO is also deeply committed to providing its students with opportunities for exposure to higher education. One of the standout features of the curriculum is the series of college campus visits, where students engage in hands-on educational workshops and get a closer look at the variety of advanced academic programs they will be able to pursue after graduation. These visits give students a tangible sense of what college life is like, helping them envision their futures while also preparing them for the next step in their academic journeys.

Additionally, KCO regularly organizes trips and extracurricular activities designed to cultivate leadership skills. These experiences are intentionally crafted to challenge students and help them grow both academically and personally. Whether participating in team-building exercises, volunteering for community projects, or taking on leadership roles in class or school-wide events, students are encouraged to take initiative and develop their leadership potential.

Service to the local community is another cornerstone of the KCO experience. Students participate in a variety of community outreach programs, putting their skills and knowledge into action. For example, students volunteer in Children’s Day newspaper sales, contribute to the KCUSD Kid’s Day Celebrations, and serve as teaching assistants during the 6th grade SCICON camps. These opportunities not only allow students to give back to the community but also help them develop a sense of responsibility and empathy, important qualities of a well-rounded leader.

Through these diverse activities, KCO students gain a holistic education that prepares them for both college and life. The combination of academic rigor, leadership development, and community involvement ensures that each student leaves KCO not only prepared for higher education but also ready to make a positive impact on the world around them.
